The problem with gardening is that it relies on guesswork and trial-and-error and for most of us, that just leads to wasted money and dying plants. When I moved into my new home in Dunstable, I had zero gardening experience and a garden that had been reclaimed by nature for three years. I wanted to transform this space into something manageable and easy on the eye, but was hit with an immediate barrier... I didn't know where to start! The dilemma of what to plant and where was weighing heavily on my mind and not wanting to waste money and effort planting things in the wrong spot, I hit a wall.
It started with a routine trip to Aldi. Walking through the mystery that surrounds the middle aisle, I found myself surrounded by gardening tools and build-your-own greenhouses and for the first time, my interest was truly sparked—I could see the potential for a thriving garden of my own, but I still didn't have the logic to actually start without the risk of potentially expensive mistakes. Later that day in Asda (You always forget something when shopping right?), I saw the other side of the story: a lone, heavily reduced indoor plant sitting on a shelf. It looked sad and drooping. I didn't take it and felt guilty for it, hoping that someone would take on the challenge, but that moment made me realise something. I had no way of knowing whether it would survive in my home's specific light conditions, or how to nurse it back to true health. I had the interest and the tools to build, but I was missing the data.
I went to sleep that night with those two images in my head, the potential for a thriving garden, and a plant that was fighting for survival because it was simply in the wrong place and lacking the appropriate care. That night, I had a vision that changed everything. It wasn't about "luck" or having a "green thumb." It was about Solar Mapping. The sun is the primary engine of all life, and there is a definitive science behind optimal plant placement, it just isn't accessible to the everyday gardener... yet. If we could use the sensors already in our pockets to map the sun's path across any outdoor or indoor space, we could remove the guesswork entirely. We could use Solar Logic to predict exactly where a greenhouse should sit, or how a thriving garden could be built, before even spending a single penny.
That vision became Solvida Life. Gardening shouldn't be a hobby of trial and error, which too often leaves outdoor spaces looking like a bit of a mess and bank accounts looking a bit lighter. It should be a data-driven journey. I began developing the Solvida Success Engine™, a system that treats every green space as a living body with five Vital Engines. By using Augmented Reality (AR) and LiDAR garden mapping to analyse the "Lungs" (Light) and the "Skeleton" (Structure) of any space, we can give every homeowner the confidence of an expert. Solvida is for the person standing in the middle aisle wondering where to start and it's also for the struggling plant on the shelf. My pledge is to build the tools so that no plant is left behind. With the right logic, the sun can bring life to any space.
